RAM Backward compatible?

I have the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard. The specs say I have:
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
2 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 2GB DDR400/333/266 non-ECC,
unbuffered DDR SDRAM memory

I am having a hard time finding decently priced RAM @ PC3200 locally.
It was suggested to run a RAM with higher speeds since it is backward
compatible. Is this true? Would this run into any performance loss
issues? What about wanting to run in dual channel mode?

Also, if this does work, what memory size would work in this board that
is backward compatible?

Thanks

I am using a P 4, Pentium D 2.8 Socket 775. I was looking at this USR
memory from Tigerdirect.com: http://tinyurl.com/36besc
or
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...063&CatId=1354

I never heard of USR and I don't know how's their performance.

I would like to have a pair of dual channel as I understand it will
give me a big performance boost over single channel, besides the CAS
ratings will be different if keep the 512 mb and have a 1MB stick.
Unless I shouldn't worry about this?

Thanks, I know the above companies are great but the prices are a little
high. I wont be doing any OC so that's not important.

Any idea on this budget likely generic memory from USR:
http://tinyurl.com/36besc or
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...063&CatId=1354
?

Price out a pair from OCZ Technology ---

http://www.ocz.com/

As for "generic" memory, they could be OK but there are not going to
many testimonials about them. One takes one's chances with "unknowns".

Locally, I have heard several complaints/quality issues on RAM made by
OCZ, specifically PC3200.

So it is generic memory then...hmm. And if one has to return the memory
to Tiger Direct I would have to pay shipping both ways. That sucks, may
have to bite the bullet and buy locally then.
