So, I recently aquired an HP ze5000, and for the most part, am totally
happy with it. Except for one itty bitty little issue I have been
having, that I assume is the RAM.

It doesn't matter what I install, be it Linux or Windows, it literally
takes 8 hours or more to boot up. It appears to blitz through the BIOS,
and seems to go at normal speed when showing the splash screen in both
Windows and Linux. But it is in this between time that it takes for
bloody ever. Example, with Windows, I get a blinking underscore
(before the splash screen) and it appears to hang, but like I said,
just wait 8 hours or more and it boots up just fine.

However, when in the operating system, or using a live CD in the Linux
case, there are NO issues with speed. That is what makes me question
the RAM. Seems to work like a computer of this scale should. Fast.

I am at a loss here, so, if anyone could help me, it would be greatly
appreciated!

I would wonder about the hard drive before questioning the RAM. Either way,
run some diagnostics, MEMTEST-86 for memory and hard drive manufacturer's
diagnostics for the drive... Ben Myers

Thanks for the ideas, but those were ones I had long ago. I tried
different drives, different ram and everything. My final restitution on
this case would have to be a bad memory channel. I was told I could
probably get 400 off of ebay. So...Thanks again.
