In case you still have the problem and you know a little electronics,
here's something might solve your problem, spending just a buck or two:
This usually happens due to a motherboard issue, and 99% of the time the
problem is the 3 biggest capacitors (It looks like there's a major issue
with these capacitors in that type of motherboard). Look for the 3 biggest
capacitors in the motherboard (I think they are close to the CMOS battery)
and check if their top-end looks "fatty" (i.e., not flat) and probably
burned/rusty. If that is the case, just take them out, buy some new ones
at Radio Shack (or any other electronics store), and solder the new ones.
So far I have "rescued" 6 or 7 IBM Netfinity 1000/3000 Servers with that
trick, and spending only 75 cents for each capacitor (a lot better than
buying a new board from IBM, that asked for over $100 for each board).
