I think the OP is an old timer on net... Back in the days, browsers had
simple nntp functionality

Somewhat of an old-timer. And I'm definitely *not* a serious techie,
to the consternation to my high end programmer friends here in SV.

I'm doing this currently on OE on my old G3, but I really hate the
idea of micro$oft products on my machine. So the new mini-Mac will
remain evil empire free forever. The consensus seems to be with
Mozilla, so I will try that. Thanks to all for the feedback.

And MT Newswatcher. , be sure to try that too.

I ended up purchasing Unison since it fits my current style, simplicity.
