I couldn't agree more about Steam, although once games are registered
and updated they run just fine without an internet connection, or even a
CD. Just set Steam to offline mode.
It's a far more intelligent approach than other protection schemes, e.g.
Midway and their horrid StarForce protection. The sons of bitches
squeezed their ass cheeks so tightly together, they greeded themselves
straight into bankruptcy. As if gamers would be willing to watch their
CD and DVD drives die premature deaths and have their system
security and performance severely compromised, just to run 20 year
old arcade games? Simply astonishing stupidity and greed.
