shows
"Special Edition Entertainment Notebook PC "

So that might be why nothing matches - no XP equivalent for it ? Chip
wasn't out in XP days ?

So you're not trying MediaCenter XP - just vanilla XP ?
I'd go to Realtek and have it search your PC for driver match

http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/...&GetDown=false

I have a HP dv6113 Mediacenter XP
try hp.com and compare audio options.
I know mine APPEARS as Altec Lansing - don't know if that's the chipset.
If it IS the same, I could upload my XP driver
