Depends. If you want to use the new features of DirectX 9 at high frame
rates, then it's critical. If you don't need high frame rates or
don't mind turning those features off then it doesn't make a whole lot
of difference.
In any case, you need to "download M$oft's software DX9", as the boards
provide support, they do not provide the full API.
