I'm using one in my old AMD system that is in an early mATX case
that has limited case venting (places for fans). I sure wouldn't design
a new system around one of those things, but it solves the problem
adequately (not really "a problem", I just wanted the temps lower).
I did have a problem with the one I have: it started to squeal loudly
after a few months of use. But I put a drop of oil on the spindle and
it's been quiet ever since.
