NOT (!!!) Maxtor. Higher than average failure rate.

NOT (!!!) anything from Buy.com . A client of mine bought two externals via
Buy.com and they failed. I opened them up and found drives clearly marked as
refurbished, whatever that means to a drive manufacturer. One was a Maxtor. The
other was a Western Digital with a label from the refursbishing company.

I second Ben's advice. Here's a link where you can drill down (columns on
the left of the page to sort by various means). I generally recommend
either Seagate or Western Digital externals:
