Last month I started a thread ("Email Client Recommendations"). I've been
using Entourage (from Office 2004), and am fed up with its unstable
behavior.
In any event, at one point (on Oct. 14) I asked for newsreader
recommendations, and I received a lot of responses. I ended up downloading
several newsreaders (Thunderbird, MT-Newswatcher, MacSoup, and Unison) to
see which appealed to me. Quite frankly, I'm not thrilled with any of them.
But it may be mostly because I've gotten used to the way Entourage handles
Newsgroups.
Like you, I was a long-time OE user prior to migrating to OS X last spring.
I never used Entourage before (though I had it as part of Office 2002 on my
OS 9 machine). I have Office 2004 on my current iMac, so I decided to give
Entourage a try. Entourage can best be described as "OE on steroids." (But
we all know the ill effects of steroids!) My point is, if you like how OE
handles NGs, you may very well like Entourage as well (for NGs alone). Of
course, unless you already have Office, you're out of luck (unless you want
to fork over $$$ to MS).
