The UK MacWorld magazine did a benchmark test last month, they found
that most processes are about 50% in Rosetta compared running on a true
G5.

They listed the following tests:

iTunes - 45 mins of music converted from MP3 to AAC.

Dual Core 3:41 mins. G5 1:16 mins = 0.34x speed.

Photoshop - 14 scripted tasks on a 50MB file.

Dual Core 2:50 mins. G5 1:16 mins = 0.45x speed.

A word document scroll was a similar difference.

That's strange ... surely iTunes is a Universal application.

It is, but you can set apps to run in either mode.

That's taking things to extremes! Why force a Universal application to
run in Rossetta? I suppose it's a curiosity, but it comes as no surprise
that it is considerably slower than running natively or on an old (!)
G5.

My own comment was in relation to iTunes ... is it affected by such
issues?

Indeed it isn't (or at least not that I know of).

However, it was only done as a test to obtain a benchmark, and in this
case was only some extra data for the analysis. They could easily have
picked another app I'm sure, in any case it had almost the same results
as the other apps tried.

Never used it, although I did also wonder about the visualiser plug-ins
too.

This is very strange, I just finished watching the WWDC 2005 Keynote
and it clearly shows that the UB code can also load the PPC plug-ins
(Adobe was CS2 was shown).
Does this mean that Steve was just pulling a worm out of the apple?

Was CS2 UB code ? Find that hard to beleive, as Adobe still haven't
release a version of Acrobat that works properly in WinXP x64 Edition.
And that OS was released publicly last April 30. At least that is what
Adobe themselves say in their support pages:

http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331732.html

I haven't seen XP x64 Edition until last week.
