USB mice are supposed to have a standardized protocol, so that
is likely out. One possibility is shoddy RF engineering and
checksumming (MS does shoddy engineering all the time, so it
would not be a surprise) and an increase of residual RF noise.
The signals the mouse sensd could then be mangled. This would
however likely cause other effects as well.
However I cannot see thios being due to dirt in the mouse either.
The only mechanical problem I can think of is a shot microswitch
(can happen after a long time of abuse). They can be extremely
sensitive, and the click would then be just from the movement.
The most effective solution is probably to send a
replacement to the customer and have her send back the
defective part.
