Hello !
I've just build my new P4 system on Abit IC7-Max3 motherboard and I
have a problem installing WinXP on. I have IDE hard drive on primary
connector, DVD-ROM and CD-RW drive on secondary connector, and SATA
drive connected to first SATA port. I need to install winxp on the
SATA drive and I'm able to do that but after instalation the system
doesn't want to boot to SATA drive, all I have is blank screen. The
only two configurations that work are when I disconnected one of the
IDE drives and used only primary or secondary, and when I installed
the system on the IDE hard drive. But I don't want to compromise one
of the drives and I'm not gona install the system on regular 7200rpm
IDE drive when I have 10000rpm SATA drive. Is there any way to make
this work or am I out of luck.
Please answer both on the gruop and my e-mail.
Thank You all.

Greg

Greg,

When you installed the XP on the SATA and it asked you if you needed
to install a 3rd party driver (ie, the driver for the SATA on the
motherboard)did you do that?

Also, is your boot up in your motherboard bios list the SATA drive
before the EIDE hard drives? If not it may be stopping at the last
item listed in the boot up bios. Most bios let you list 3 items in
the order you want to boot up (ie, floppy, CD-ROM, HardDrive 0~which
is usually an EIDE drive). In other words if the SATA drive is not
listed in the boot up (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) then the BIOS on the
motherboard doesn't look for it and stops.

Hope this helps!

John

Yes I tried installing the 3rd party driver but it was for the RAID
only which I'm not using, and the drive is working cuz when I
installed the system on IDE drive the SATA drive wos showing and
working properly under windows. When it comes to BIOS then yes I tried
multiple configurations and it has a separet item for which hard drive
to boot first followed by 1st, 2nd, 3rd boot items where all you can
choose is Hard Drive and I guess You specify which hard drive in the
other item. For me it looks like a windows problem though cuz hardware
is working fine, for some reason windows can't adress properly the
boot or system drive, maybe because it sees too many hard drive
controllers.
Thanks and please let me know about any other idea what may be cousing
this or how to fix it.
