This Compaq Armada M700 stays dark as it tries to boot. Then it powers
down. I've tried pressing various keys during the POST, which results
in various LEDs flickering etc, but still nothing from the screen.
Sometimes it beeps twice, but not always.

I've tried plugging in an external monitor. But it stays dark too,
even if I press Fn+F4.

Anyone have any idea on how to find out what is going on?
Thanks

Check if memory is still in place.
or
Start on AC without battery.
or
Press Fn keys during POST

Good Luck

I checked the memory - swapped it with memory in another computer.

I've just tried the other two things you suggested. No difference.

I wonder whether it might be the video circuits. Is there any way of
checking them?

So you can't enter BIOS, hmmm

Try to boot as usual, and try to login when you think Windows wants your
credentials. After that: insert a CD/DVD from which you know it will
autostart with audible confirmation (game, audio,...)

If you hear anything from Windows or the inserted CD/DVD you have a
video problem.

If not: let us know!
