Please don't top-post, it makes responding to your messages more
difficult.
My guess remains the same: many computers will try to boot from USB,
particularly if there's some kind of storage media attached. Have the
friend first remove any camera cards from the printer. If that alone
doesn't speed up booting, turn off booting from USB in the computer
BIOS.
