everything looks like is working great on this mobo except I get about 1/2
the speed I should be getting on usb 2 compared to every other pc I tried.
I have tried 2 hardrives, flashdrives, mp3 player (both front and back
connections on the mobo). I hear that some motherboards have this problem
with ati chipsets (but not all). Is there a fix for this?

I have the latest bios, 2 gigs of ram, xp pro.

Thanks

Vinny

There is a chart on the bottom of this page, comparing USB transfer
rates with various chipsets. The SB600 is supposed to be "fixed",
compared to the poor showing of the SB450. And your board has the
SB600.

Does HDTach work with a USB drive ? Maybe you can get some
comparative numbers with that. Report back what numbers you
get.

It might also be that the USB port shares its interrupt with
some slow device.

I tested the usb2 speed at 11MB/s
it's 1/2 of others

Bring up the Task Manager (control-alt-delete).
Display the percentage CPU usage.

Then rerun the benchmark. Is the CPU running flat out ?
In other words, would a lack of CPU cause the poor result ?

Otherwise, as long as the Southbridge is not a SB450,
I don't see a good excuse for it to run so slow.

Especially if you are seeing 22MB/sec on some other
motherboard, while running HDTach with the test hard drive.
