Snipping Tool Not Working with Media Player

We've been able to successfully use the snipping tool in Media Player for
sending video edits to the editors. However, within the past day or two, it
has not worked. When we bring the snipping tool up, the video disappears,
and nothing is captured. We've replicated this on several pc's. Any
suggestions?

Thanks!

I think that's the nature of the program, Jon. It is built to capture the
primary screen itself, freezing what you see, and not an active video which
is basically paused when you invoke the Snipping Tool.

It used to work on multiple machines, as recently as a week ago. Any
suggestions for troubleshooting? Or, is there a way around this? It was a
*great* workflow solution for us, but now it is not working!

I'm not sure if the snipping tool is able to capture Windows Media Player
video which may be playing in an "video overlay" which is how DVD movies are
almost always played. To capture this kind of video, you will need a screen
capture program with more muscle like SnagIt (www.snagit.com) from
TechSmith. It's screen capture on steroids and can capture just about
anything you can see.

I don't believe so, Jon. Perhaps you were using something else? My
Snipping Tool (from the Experience Pack) kills any video playing in
MediaPlayer as soon as it is evoked - even if it has been paused. Are you
perhaps still using the original version?

Turn off the hardware acceleration in Media Player - the output is going
straigt to hardware not to software screen buffer where a screen capture tool
can get it.

Maybe media player is set to "High Quality" mode - using VMR9 instead of
Overlay. I've found that VMR9 presents a surface different to the overlay
which can have colour corrections laid over and maybe reveals itself to be
screencaptured/snipped as you're used to.
Tools/Options/Performance/Advanced - then under Video Acceleration choose
Use High Quality Mode.

Hope that works for you,

matt.
