Solo 9550 maximum hard drive size

Gateway Tech Support says the largest hard drive that the Solo 9550
notebook will support is 40GB, due to the BIOS.

I can't imagine what's so special about 40GB. I'm considering
ordering an 80GB hard drive from newegg to replace my 20GB that seems
to be dying (based on BSOD error messages in XP).

Has anyone put a hard drive in a Solo notebook larger than 40GB?
