Really simple, John. Go into Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio
tab. Tap the Volume button in the Sound Recording section in the center,
then place a check mark in the Line In section. This removes the internal
microphone from being active, making it possible to use an external
microphone (or none).
When you desire to use the internal microphone, simply repeat the steps and
put the check mark under Microphone.
