How much battery is used when my computer is in stand by mode ?
Ideally I'd like to drive to a location input some data entry a
spreadsheet then put computer in stand by mode and drive to next
location and repeat, maybe I'd use the computer for a total of 2 hours
and hopefully be in stand by mode for a total of 6 hours. This is
for a 9 cell battery for my vostro 1500.

Thanks,
Chris

I think you would have no problem at all, assuming that the 9 cell is
the extended battery on the Vostro. When you find out please post
your results.

If your driving a vehicle just get a small inverter and use the AC
adapter to power the laptop. No worries about it that way. Just match
the unit to the adapter or go a little larger.
I used a set-up like that for 3 years while working for the Lottery.
Used to keep my agent listings and mapping software running all the
time. Even imported the data into the map so I didn't have to search for
some of the places. Could do all my service records and employee
scheduling while I was working. Worked real neat, plus I could listen to
MP3s at the same time.

i would not use standby mode... i got burned too many times.
by forgetting to put power back on, and you drain your battery. once
the battery gets weaker, if you let it drain too much, it doesnt come
back to life... ie dead battery. it happened to me twice!

what i do now, is use hibernate instead of standby. accomplishes the
same thing, and doesnt use any power at all. take just slightly longer
to power up and down, but its worth the protection.
