An older SOYO Build
O/S: Windows 2000 Professional
Main Board Model: SY-7VEM
BIOS: Original default, Can't get to the POST
Memory: 512 Mb Kingston
CPU: Celeron 700 MHz

Would not start, New Power supply etc [Tested OK! as well]. On pressing
and holding down start button for 4 - 5 sec, CPU cooling fan may,
intermittently lurch for a 1/2 turn. ??? Fan(s) test OK! independently.

How can I get a copy of the SOYO Disc w/ drivers, I can't locate mine.
Is there a download somewhere, an ISO etc., or available from the Company.

Have a peep here in the ref. links in Computer Help desk, pretty sure
you'll get them from Soyo which I think I included.

But fans should spin as soon as you power the unit up because this
would have to happen before installing any driver.

You checked the fan and changed the PSU which seems logical, may be
worth checking for any bulged or swollen electrolytic capacitors
(caps for short), these usually have a domed top instead of being
nice n' flat and you may see gnge leaking from them, this stuff can
eat through the PCB laquer used to protect the copper tracks and then
eat them away. Sometimes checking the actual mobo PSU (Power Supply
Unit) connector for bad or burned soldered joints may help.

Would it be worth while checking the CPU.. could a electronic fault on
the mobo.... but I could be wrong and stand to be corrected.

You should get bios POST beep with just the CPU, Graphic and RAM, all
other drives inc. the HDD can be disconnected for bios boot, maybe
re-inserting these and cleaning and applying new heat sink paste to
the CPU may prove fruitful.

I have 35 of these SOYO SY7VEM boards in the school computer lab which
have managed as a volunteer for the past 5 years.

You definitely have a capacitor problem with one or more of the 10
1500uf electrolytic caps on the board. Because of this you have
scrambled bios memory. If you replace the CMOS battery and clear th
BIOS with the white jumper, you will probably boot again.

Note: Your board will no longer be dependable unless you have the boar
recapped.

PS: I accept donations of these boards for the school, regardless o
condition
