Strange problem with my CDROM Drive

Hi,
I have this strange problem with my CDROM Drive. I have a dual boot
machine, Win98 and Win2000. I have a new 54X Mitsumi CDROM Drive
attached to my PC. When I boot into Win2000, I have no problem
accessing the content of the CD, but when I boot into Win98, my CDROM
Drive isnt detected. I go into "MyComputer" and the CDROM drive
icon/list isnt listed there.

Then, I swap the Mitsumi cdrom drive, with an old 12X Teac CDROM
Drive. Boot up in to Windows98....no problem. I can see my cdrom drive
in the MyComputer.

54X CDROM drive is of an OEM type, therefore no drivers came with it.
But then, I thought usually no drivers are need for CDROM Dr.

Would somebody shine some lights as to what is happening to my CDROM
Drive? Or my PC?

In my experience, Windows XP has a LOT more drivers pre-installed than
Win98, and I assume win 2000 does also. Your Mitsumi drive sounds
brand new, so I would guess that win98 wouldn't include compatible
drivers, and I bet that you will need drivers for this device. The
older drive probably was compatible with drivers included in win98.
