Strike F1 to Continue

Hi!

When I first boot up, I get a black screen with white text ,as follows:

"PHOENIX ROM BIOS PLUS 1.10 A05"
plus some other apparently insignificant words..

Under it, the folowing:

Dell System DIM Series

And under it:
"Strike F1 to Continue"
"F2 for Setup"

In the past, this has only happened when my HDD was not firmly
connected to the cable. I corrected it, and I'm on my way. NOW it
happens EVERY time I boot, and pressing 'F1' solves the problem..no
need for '"F2". It's that extra wasted step I'm peeved at! I'd love
to eliminate it.

Is it really because my computer hates me or did someone lie to me!

Thanks for this help and all the great help I've received in the past.
Also, can someone tell me how to KillFile that not very nice man,
Kadaitcha Man? I've been praying for him but somehow he's here on earth
and none of us really knows why!

What model Dimension? If it is over 2-3 years old, replace the motherboard
battery.

I just had a MB change in an XPS 600 and ended up with the same error
message. For some reason it didn't like one of the boot devices before it
(USB device, onboard CDROM). So I tried a couple different rearrangements of
the boot order and it cleared up. Don't know why but it worked.

ALT+F will default the BIOS back to original settings, including boot order.

Not sure if your PC has a connection for SATA hard drives if as well as IDE.
If the sata interface is enabled but no HD attached you will get this
message at boot up.

He posted that it's a Dim2400 Celeron, so it came with wall-to-wall IDE
fwiw.

I get the same strike F1 message when I boot up. Dimension 4300. If I turn
the computer on and off I may get luck and it boots up like nothing is
wrong. I thought that it was a bad hard drive, but last time I got the
cumputer up, I scheduled a chkdsc on the next reboot. 3 days later I
finally got it up. No errors. Any advice? I have not added anything new
to this computer in years.

Replace the C2032 3v lithium battery on the 4300 motherboard. You probably
have never done so. It's time... Ben Myers

That may have been my problem. I'll test it. Thanks.
