Is it possible to use a Iomega Rev drive on a UltraSparc system under Solaris?
(i.e. http://www.saveeverything.com )

It has SCSI, USB 2.0 and Firewire options, but apparently no drivers for
non-Mac/PC platforms.

Looks desirable; is it? (for those of you have used it on MAC/PC)

I haven't used that product, however the Iomega USB/FireWire external
storage generally works on Solaris. I've personally used USB attached
zip drives and USB hard drive (all Iomega). Solaris just saw them as
removable storage.

Don't fret the driver thing. Most OHCI compliant hardware should work
just fine. I picked up Adaptec's PCI four port USB card, dropped it
in an Ultra 60 and started using USB mice, DVD burner and the devices
mentioned above. The mouse needed a line in /etc/system to work, but
otherwise very little configuration to get devices working.

Just because a device isn't listed doesn't mean it won't work.
It just means nobody's done it and submitted VTS results.

Cheers,
Steve

This was on an Ultra 60. Would there be a difference between an Ultra
and a Sparc system? I'm looking to install a REV drive on a Sun
Blade 1500, but have heard that it is seen as a read-only device like
a CD-ROM drive. I have not been able to locate any solid information
on this.

Thanks,
Jeff
