SY-K7ADA and Large HD

I installed Windows XP onto a WD 160 MB Drive but it runs like slow sludge. Yet, it runs exactly right on a small 20-Gig Maxtor.
What has to be done for this board to accept the larger WD?
I need help! Thanks!
