System Reboots arbitrarily

After what seemed to be a HD malfuntion, the system ( Mach Speed
motherboard, AMD 2800XP, Windows 2K) was reset on a new HD. System
began to reboot at most any arbitrary time. I could not pin point it,
but it seemed that the reboots were somehow related to the machine's
beep, so I went into Windows Device Manager and deactivated the beep.
No more trouble with reboot. Anyone have any idea what is going on
here?

Wouldn't that indicate a driver conflict somewhere, possibly with the
sound card?
Or is it the motherboard speaker that beeps? Is that connected
correctly? Maybe you have something else connected to the speaker
terminal on the motherboard.
Just some thoughts...

Well, hopefully, I have found the problem. When the HD burped, I had
to reinstall all. It did not occur to me that the driver for the on
board audio would have to be reinstalled too. I don't know if this
caused the trouble with the Beep, but all seems well now tht the audio
driver is installed. Possibly having the on board audio turned on in
the bios, but not having the driver installed was the problem. HTH
someone someday.
