Ok, for the past few months I've overclocked my video card using Powerstrip
(shareware version) now, at first i got a good solid 100fps in Counterstrike. However, that has steadily declined for 2 months until now, I get around 60-80 fps. Does the vid card need to be replaced? can I do anything to fix this? |

So any reccomendations besides a radeon 9800 which just isnt happening. "MiniDisc_2k2" <> wrote in message news:L9MLa.35494$... > Yup. Sounds like your video card is just degrading. Happens to all > overclockers. > > |

60-80 still isn't that bad (but this is coming from a person with a $70
video card, but that'll get fixed soon). But if you really want a good card for a good price, I'd recommend the GeForce4 line. They're cheap right now because they aren't the best, but you can still get a pretty good card. Radeon 9700 should be dropping in price too. |

install your windows anew, if your videocard goes bust, it shows through
artifacts, rebooting, locking up etc. This seems more like a clean install might do wonders... you do NOT need a new videocard (unless you WANT to buy a new one, then my advice is best ignored ![]() regards, cornelis "Michael Hughes" <dapaintschmuck**IZASEXYBEAST**@rcn.com> wrote in message news:bdntt8$egk$... > Ok, for the past few months I've overclocked my video card using Powerstrip > (shareware version) > > now, at first i got a good solid 100fps in Counterstrike. P.S. A video card doesn't just slow down for no reason. Sure it could be the
cpu or something but I doubt that you'd get a 40fps drop in 2 months (40%) |

OK, but without the clock speeds changing, the speed of the graphics card is
not magically changing by any other means. If the card degrades, as can happen, the speed will stay constant but it may become unstable or show artefacting, requiring the clock speed to be lowered. This problem strikes me as far more likely to be somewhere in the graphics settings. Perhaps settings like AF have been enabled accidentally etc. Also look for the usual suspects - defrag the hard disc and check there are no background programs that you don't want there - many programs like Winamp, Acrobat and MS Office have processes running to enable the application to start with less delay. Unfortunately that tends to slow down every other app. Also remove any spyware type stuff. Plenty of programs can do this automatically. "MiniDisc_2k2" <> wrote in message news:%e6Ma.39175$... > P.S.
