Unsure what version it is although I *think* it may be a V7.0. It has a 133/133 setting in the BIOS so it should take an Athlon. Got an old Duron 1.1 in mine though. |

I did come across a link just after I posted | talking about rebadged K7SEMs, but I was so excited by the mention of Athlon | XP support (never looked likely to me) that I immediately logged off and | went to set it up with a known-working XP1500. | | Unfortunately, I couldn't get the board to work. The board starts up as | soon as I turn on at the mains, and as there is no response from the front | panel buttons (and no LEDS are lit) it is either a faulty board (I did buy | it in a batch of untested) or it's my wiring up (that front panel stuff is | always the hardest bit for me). The only way to turn it off is at the mains | (no button on the PSU) which is always a crossed fingers job. | | Not surpsrisingly, I don't have a manual to hand to double check I've IDd | the right CMOS jumper etc. I don't know if this board covers ECS clones, | but I may be posting back here for help soon! | | BTW they may not be lookers, but this one | http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...n=c2hvd19wcm9k dWN0X2 | 92ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=27187 marked rev7.x isn't bad is it? More | importantly, it's on sale for £35, so I'm trying pretty hard to get mine | working. You will need to flash the latest BIOS to use an XP CPU in the board, I believe. My bud has one, they are solid, but not real fast boards. The onbard graphics is barely decent for gamin, it uses system memory for video memory, as is typical of the all in one boards from pcchips. -- Best regards, Kyle tired of spam, no email address |

I'm pretty sure at least one place says that 7.0 boards and above take at least XP1500/1600s out of the box. Still doesn't explain why the board powers up by itself and wont respond to anything but shutting off at the mains. |

Page 17 gives front panel connections, and JP4 (jumper on the other side of the CMOS battery to the RAM slots) is CMOS clear jumper. Pins 1 & 2 are CMOS clear, so make sure the jumper's over pins 2 & 3 otherwise that could contribute to an un-bootable board. If the board's still not booting properly, check that the screws holding the motherboard to the case stand-offs aren't shorting on any of the motherboard's tracks (assuming the stand-offs are the metal kind, since almost all are). Tracks being shorted in this way can cause all kinds of odd behaviour. Failing that, is the speaker connected to the correct header? If so and there are no beeps, never mind. If it's on JP6 (another 4-pin header on the other side to the front panel block), then connect it to SPK and listen for "beep codes" which may give an indication of the error. I'm not meaning to sound like I'm treating you like an idiot, but I have done similarly stupid things in the past and they are so easy to miss! |

The speaker cable IS connected to SPK, but there are no beep codes. Nothing happens bar all the fans spinning up. And you're probably right if your idiot warning is going off as the biggest problem I usually have with boards is not only working out which pins are the grounds, but learning what the hell 'ground' means! I'm great with bits and bytes but anything electrical goes right over my head (which is a good thing when you think about it literally!). |
