I just got a Maxtor 160 with an included ATA/133 card. I used the
ATA/133 card and partitioned the drive (less time to defrag the smaller partitions). I haven't had any problems yet, but have only been using it for about a week now. Is there a reason you don't want to use the PCI card? |

I have other PCI cards that must move a lot of video data - in
addition to the AGP video card. I would guess that it could slow things down as the IDE drives are probably on a different bus than the PCI cards (but I could certainly be wrong about that - maybe it would be faster transferring data from one PCI to another). I'm using my 160 as my 2nd hard drive with win2000 SP3 with the registry update for large drives - without the card - and have not had any problems on my k7s5a pro.
