When upgrading my SiS AGP from the ECS website, the add hardware
requested a driver for the PCI System Management Bus. I didn't have
one and in the process of searching my motherboard broke my ethernet
and thus my internet connection. Now I that I am at work and can
download a driver, are they refering some driver that comes with the
Sis735? That's the only thing I can think of that may have that
feature.

I think you are on the right track. Dl the newest MB drivers from ECS.
Strange, I was checking out your problem when I accidently removed (I
thought I clicked on Properties) my Gameport in Device Manager and suddenly
Windows was searching for new hardware and wanted to look for "PCI System
Management Bus". Luckily, I just cancelled out of it all.
Put "PCI System Management Bus" (with the quotation marks) in the search
box in Google.

The ECS website has separate drivers for Lan, Sound, and VGA. Win98
didn't think any of these were the correct driver. Looking at google,
one guy said you have to load the chipset drivers for you motherboard
to fix this. I assume the chipset in this case is the Sis735 (in his
case it was an Intel)

After installing these, I got a Windows protection fault while Win98
was coming up. Even installing the old drivers did not fix this
problem. I finally punted and restored the entire C: drive. The
interesting thing is that I didn't have a Sis AGP device listed in my
system devices until I installed the driver. I have a feeling I have
an incompatible set of drivers somewhere.

I wouldn't go that far but I'll try and help.I had a problem with the
installer with the 116 AGPs and went back to the 114 and no problems
with them

OK,

Somehow I was able to diable just about every device in my hardware
profile. I was able to slowly add devices until I found the one that
generated the windows protection error. Some USB driver seemed to
mess things up. I upgraded to AGP 1.14, although I have still
experienced some problems running in the video mode I normally run in.
I don't know if it is the Display adapter or AGP driver giving me the
trouble.

In the end, the request for the System Management Bus Driver never
appeared again. Go figure.
