I have 2 near identical systems
350Watt PSu 256Mb PC2100 DDR (Nanya) Geforce 4 Mx440 graphics AMR Modem Maxtor 60Gb HDD Floppy (Pull from 486 machine) 52x Artec CDRW MSI DVD in Machine B, OEM in Machine A Windows XP pro Machine B has some problems: Sometimes, when windows XP is loading up, it will get to the desktop and reboot. This is random, sometimes happens, sometimes doesnt. I also put the case on the side and I dont know if this was a co-incidence but the machine reset itself. I uses sisandra to burn in the machine and there were no hangups. I used another program and the machine reset itself about 1 minute into the burn in. I just went into the BIOS and looked under system monitor the 12V rail flutchuates between 12.38 and 12.416V V core is 1.648 5V is 4.87 Is this normal, would you say the PSU is the cause of failure? Secondly, Machine A which I also ran the the 3rd party burn in software on also resets itself at random points. On a minor point, machine B takes a very long time to display the nero IDE toolkit whcih gives info. on the optical drives. The hard disk and DVD are connected on IDE1, and the CDRW on IDE2, When I unplug the DVD (which is slave on the primary IDE channel) the information is displayed instantly. I tried swapping the DVD round with the CDRW, but that didnt work. The DVD is made by MSI, and I noticed that there are 2 sets of jumper blocks right on the end. This is not to do with master/slave nor SPDIF nor the CDROM audio cable. Does anyone know what this is used for? cheers |

Get to Safemode/My computer/Right click/Properties/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/Settings and disable the auto-restart. This should let you work in a normal session until you find the conflict.Usually an incorrect driver so start with the Devices/Device Manager. Clear the events log and then re-boot and use the Event log program to look for delays/failures.See Winxp help with the keyword event HTH ![]() -- Free Windows/PC help, http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/trouble.html Free songs download, http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/17/sheppard.html |
