Hi, I just installed dell truemobile 1180
mini pci card in my s1415-173.
Card seems to be working fine, but I have couple simple questions.
There are 2 antenna cables in the mini pci compartment,
one white and one black.
Which one is the main antenna and which aux(diversity)?
I tried both cobinations and it doesn't make a difference in signal
strenght.
Also the wireless on/off swith doesnt make difference either.
Finally the wirelles light doesn't light
no mater what I do.
I read somewhere that pins 11 and 13 on the mini pci connector in
toshibas are reversed is there anything that I can do?

ps. That card is based on broadcom
chipset for what it matters.
thanks.

White is main, black is aux. Toshiba uses a card from Agere (Lucent chipset)
for the wifi B cards and a card from Askey (Atheros chipset) for the dual band
wifi A/B. When I replaced the wifi B card in my 5205-S703 with the dual band
card I had the same issue you did with the wifi switch and light. I got lucky
in that Toshiba has made the A/B card an option in the newest 5205 (S705) and
the newest BIOS for the 5205 series adds full support for the A/B card for all
previous 5200 models. The switch, light and Fn-F8 hotkey all now work
correctly. You may not be so lucky in that Toshiba has never (at least up until
now) used a mini-pci wifi card based on the Broadcom chipset.

I haven't heard anything about the deal on the pins on Toshiba models but I do
know that the Agere (Lucent) card Toshiba uses is also used by quite a few other
manufacturers. The fact that all it took was a BIOS update to allow the 5200
series to use either the Agere or Askey cards would lead me to believe that
there is nothing non-standard about the pin configuration on Toshibas. I could
be wrong on that but due to Toshiba keeping the actual wiring diagrams and
schematics buried away in a deep vault somewhere there's no easy way to find
out. :-)

One more question...
Which driver did you end up using -- the one for the PCI card (WMP54G)
or the one for the PC card (WPC54G)?

Did you have any trouble getting it to work?
Windoze XP shows that my card is working "properly" but it can't see
the WRT54G router just inches away... (Note: I have encryption turned
off for now and haven't modified any of the default settings. I also
tried multiple different channels synchronizing them manually on the
laptop and the router)

Is this an 802.11b or 802.11g card?
I am *very* interested because I have had trouble with a Broadcom
802.11g mini-pci card that I pulled out of a Linksys WMP54g PCI card.

Did you have to do anything special to get the card to work?
