This is what Toshiba's : own specs say about the video RAM: : "32MB internal integrated Intel 852GM video memory" : No mention of sharing system RAM, looks to me like it's 32MB dedicated : to the video. No, "integrated" does not mean "dedicated". "Integrated" most likely means the video memory is part of the system memory. Some marketing pipsqueaks may have figured out that "shared" has a negative connotation. When you see "integrated" or "shared" think "cost savings for the manufacturer" - exactly what they want for a low-end laptop. There's an easy "show me" way to test this for yourself: if you can play with one of these laptops in the store, go into Control Panel -> System and see how much RAM is available to the system. My Toshiba 1415, which has 512MB of system RAM, shows 512MB available here; the 16MB of video RAM is dedicated, not shared/integrated. If a machine is using shared video memory, you'll see a lower number of MB available on the Control Panel -> System popup. My section at work just bought one for a programmer, and we got to look at it first. It has about 478 Meg free ram. It is based on a similar design to my 2435-S255, which has 32 Meg Dedicated/Separate Video Ram. It shows 512 Meg available. Lee |

On board Intel graphics benchmarks at about 1000 3DMarks (vs. 10000+ for
Radeon 9800). Dog slow by today's standards, if you're doing any sort of gaming. Otherwise, fine for web browsing. |

Well, that's why they make more expensive laptops, right? I'm surprised last year's 1415 (that I have now) had separate video RAM - perhaps because at the time system RAM costs were more and machines more often had 256MB not 512MB or more. Shared video RAM doesn't take much away from a 512MB system.
