hard drive failure

Talk about bad luck. My Dell Inspiron 8200 series' hard drive has
failed with all my information on it. I believe that my warranty
expired a week ago and I don't know what I can do about it. Help me
out. Is it possible to still be able to recover my information? Or
should I be smart next time and buy a backup drive?
