I've just upgraded to the 8RDA+ and a XP2500+ Barton 2x256MB
and Win98SE.. There is something wrong with the sound from MP3s and picture/sound from DVDs. In each of them there is a kind of overspeed effect. The elapsed time counter on the player is running at about twice speed (but neither exactly nor constantly). Its like the forward 'jog' button is being pressed every half second or so. The same effect is happening to MP3 playback which makes the reproduction sound very strange. Some low quality MP3s do, however, play at the right speed. Latterly, I've found that changing the DVD speaker mode to the A3D/Directsound3D setting in PowerDVD4 audio config, the sound works OK although not neccessarily correct for my stereo speakers and the video runs at the right speed. The drivers are the ones from the CD shipped with the board and the BIOS is the same, reading 03/05/2003 which may well be 5th March! I had something similar happen when I was still running 98SE. As I recall, part of the fix was to turn the "Hardware Acceleration" in the audio proerties (somewhere) down to "None". Thanks Brian
You can't remember the rest of the fix can you? I've already tried turning the accelleration down/off but no immediate effect. 8¬( I've found one other poster with the same problem but no resolution yet. On a different theme, I got the usual 'Microsoft Update' email virus this morning and in the list of addressees were a couple of regulars here - 'basketcaise' and 'nitz666'. Whatever harvested the addresses is collecting the 'Reply To' as well as the 'From' in the headers. It's a few months ago now, so I don't accurately recall what I tried other than that. My new system was flaky under 98SE, so I upgraded to XP Home. So far everything has pretty much run flawlessly under XP (except some Symantec/Norton stuff, which I can live without). FWIW, I upgraded to an Epox 8RDA+ Motherboard, XP1800+ processor, WD 80GB JB HDD and 512MB of DDR. Regards Brian |

Well, I should have tried each of the accelleration marks! The one up from the 'off' one got some if it sorted. I had a look on AOAForums and found a post that said there is an upgrade to the WDM for media drivers in the form of '242937usa8.exe' which solves quite a few related problems. I also upgraded to the nvidia 2.41 drivers for the nForce2 chipset and got all the MP3 sound sorted. But the DVD4 then complained that it wasn't going play because of the macrovision DVD and the card having TV out! So I put the earlier video driver back on from the Gainward GF4Ti4200 driver CD. Now, everything is OK. > My new system was flaky under 98SE, so I upgraded to XP Home. > So far everything has pretty much run flawlessly under XP (except some > Symantec/Norton > stuff, which I can live without). > > FWIW, I upgraded to an Epox 8RDA+ Motherboard, XP1800+ processor, > WD 80GB JB HDD and 512MB of DDR.
