Is there anything (other than inserting two compatible sticks of DDR)
that you have to do to activate the Dual Channel Ram in the Shuttle SN41G2 ? I have an Nforce2 board in another system which clearly tells me on boot that Dual Channel is activated, but the Shuttle does not do this. Is there a switch anywhere to activate/de-activate this function ? (The other board also allows you to run two sticks in single channel mode - just wondered if this one did too). I've ploughed through the bios but couldn't see anything. Thanks, Champx70 |

There is a set of BIOS settings to control that. In a nutshell, you need to set the memory to run in SYNC mode with the processor's FSB. The shuttle will not do this by default and you may have to back your RAM speed down a notch or two, depending on your parts. For example, I have an SN41G2 with 2 sticks of Corsair XMS PC2700 (333MHz) DDR RAM, but since my processor is an Athlon XP2400+ which runs with a 266MHz FSB, I run the RAM at 266, too so I can sync it with the processor FSB for better performance with the onboard video. I'm not bummed about it because I planned it to run this way, and the only reason I spent the extra $$ to get 333 DDRAM was because it's CAS2 instead of the CAS2.5 chips that come on the 266 sticks. If I was buying today, I'd have gotten a 333FSB CPU and it wouldn't have been an issue. try changing the BIOS setting to aggressive rather standard, this then
changes the sign on message to "DDR" timing rather than standard "FSB 333" -- Please remove "no spam" to reply David Gaguine "Champx70" <> wrote in message news: om... > Is there anything (other than inserting two compatible sticks of DDR) > that you have to do to activate the Dual Channel Ram in the Shuttle > SN41G2 ? > I have an Nforce2 board in another system which clearly tells me on > boot that Dual Channel is activated, but the Shuttle does not do this. > > Is there a switch anywhere to activate/de-activate this function ? > (The other board also allows you to run two sticks in single channel > mode - just wondered if this one did too). > I've ploughed through the bios but couldn't see anything. > > Thanks, > Champx70 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
