Can I honestly stuff as much as I want in the shuttle (i.e. the best
high end parts for the expansion slots) and still come underneath the
200W limit? I'm a little new to this, so I'm wondering if anyone can
help me out.

Let's say for instance I go nuts with:
AMD XP 3000+
1 GB (2x512) Kingston HyperX DDR400/PC3200 sticks
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB
Maxtor Diamond9 160 GB
and an AOpen DVD/CD-RW drive...would I be able to use this without
worrying?

Hi,

I think elsewhere in this newsgroup people have warned about the head
produced by a Radeon 9800. I you aren't aware of the noise problems, they
also warned about the fan-noise on the 9800. Otherwise it seems fine.

Cheers,
Ian

Hi, sorry about my bad English but I'm a German boy :-)

I've got a SN45G, I think it has the same 200W power-appliance as
yours.
I'm using a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, 2 x512MB Kingston HyperX PC3500,
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 120GB, Athlon XP 2800+@3200+ and a Samsung
CDRW/DVD-Drive without any Voltage Problems. But it's getting very hot,
sometimes over 50°Degrees. So I put some passive cooling fin's on it.
On the Top and on the side near the CPU-Heatpipe.

Greetings from Cologne,
Mario B.

Bad English? heheh, hey Im dyslexic!

Trust me Mario, your English is better than Pres.Bush and half the
people who live here (quite sad).

Hmmm... I'll be making some phone calls to the place I bought it from
and Shuttle themselves.

The HEAT is WAY too much, its can cause problems. Perhaps we both
have bad units? I've touched another "XPC"- clone type case with a
220watt PSU (ICE-CUBE)

http://www.fic.com.tw/product/sff/mini/ice-cube.aspx

it wasn't generating heat... and neither does my 350watt PSU...

I think if the AIR would simply MOVE out of the Shuttle PSU, it would
cool just fine.

PS: I've located the manufacture of the PSU, I will call them as well.

Thanks for this information Ian.

I had no Problems with this temperature, but I thought that this can't
be normal.
But if you say other people had this temperature too so I'll settle
down.
In the next time I'm going to Chance the original PSU-Fan against a
more powerfull one. I think the original one isn't very good.

Mario

Hey,
it's a pleasure (just sorry I was too lazy to provide you with a long list
of links to related messages, etc). Must try harder...

Best wishes,
Ian,.

I RMAed the PSU - the replacement one is pretty much just as hot...
but the fan blows better it seems (could have been a BIOS setting?)

I'm still not happy with the generated heat.
