Has anyone updated the nvidia linux drivers on SN41G2?
I've put my system together last month and have been able to get dual-boot XP and RH9 loaded without any problem. XP works perfectly including eth0. RH looked great until I tried using the built-in network card. Ended up at nvidia's site and in total confusion with two updates, audio/network/GART (...0261...) and graphics (...4363...). Have made several attempts including using the home-brew network driver that was posted in the nvidia discussion groups. This actually worked for getting the network card working but fouled up when I later went in to do the RH auto-update. So started over, again, and again...using the release notes and rpm at: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261.html Here is where I am now: a) loaded RH9 (2.4.20-8) b) then did the RH auto-update to 2.4.20-19.9 c) then nvidia's update -- rpm NVIDIA...0261.rh90up_2.4.20_9 d) am not sure I need to do the GART update with the rpm but gave it a try anyway. Was not able to do the GART patch on the last because following the instructions there is no linux-2.4.20-agpgart.diff in a /usr/src/linux-2.4.20 or the two directories (...2.4 and ...2.4.20-19.9) that I do have. Hoping the GART patch only affects the agp I am not using, went to network configurations and the nvnet hardware is now visible but when I try to setup the device, it says the nvidia card is not working. Shutdown and restarted as there is a note saying the modules must be started. Still cannot create the device. Questions: Do I need the GART patch and, if so, where should I look for the patch? or What else have I missed? Appreciate your help. Jeff |
