I´m having problems setting up WinXP on my stripeset ( I use two seagate
ST340014A, ATA100 40Gb). I use the 2.32 HPT drivers when I install XP and my motherboard has the latest bios. After installing XP on my striped disks I can´t get any writing speed on the stripe! I can read with pretty good speed but when I write its benchmark is slower than my old ATA33 drive! Anyone seen this problem before? I have a AMD Barton XP2500+ and 512 Ram! Regards Leif |

what size stripe block did you create?

Can it be some kind of driver problem? |

Would that affect stripe speed that much? I mean from slower than ATA33 to raid performance? I´ll give it a go!! As i reply to TomG I installed a patch from via......! Strange! Thanks > > Doug |

you may want to try 16K as that is the size that most of the folks I worked

Thanks for the advice! I heard somewhere that raid manufacturers themself advise to use 64K (thats default when in bios setup). How should I format NTFS then? Do I use 16K clusters? Could the 64K choice explain why my results are similar with a "normal" ATA100 drive? if he is using a Highpoint controller, it is viewed as a SCSI controller and
you do not get the option for DMA mode as it is always in DMA mode. -- Thomas Geery Network+ certified ftp://geerynet.d2g.com ftp://68.98.180.8 Abit Mirror <----- Cable modem IP This IP is dynamic so it *could* change!... over 113,000 FTP users served! ^^^^^^^ "AJ" <> wrote in message news:3f0851f2$0$11375$ ... > Are we sure it's nothing simple such as the o/s has not enabled DMA for the > drives and is using PIO? > > > "Leif" <> wrote in message > news:dgRNa.19308$... > > > > "Doug G." <> skrev i meddelandet > > news:.. . > > > In article <DxGNa.19277$>, > > > says... > > > > I´m having problems setting up WinXP on my stripeset ( I use two > seagate > > > > ST340014A, ATA100 40Gb). > > > > I use the 2.32 HPT drivers when I install XP and my motherboard has > the > > > > latest bios. > > > > After installing XP on my striped disks I can´t get any writing speed > on > > the > > > > stripe! For c: I use NTFS default 4k but another partition on the stripeset I use NTFS 32k. The 32k is much faster reading an aprox 450 Mb file, than the c:. What really bothers me is that i got a better performance installing the VIA raid enhancement patch, wich specificly said it was NOT for my chipset! That really confuses me! Tomorrow I reformat 16k and do a new benchmark! > > -- > > Thomas Geery > Network+ certified > > ftp://geerynet.d2g.com > ftp://68.98.180.8 Abit Mirror <----- Cable modem IP > This IP is dynamic so it *could* change!... > over 113,000 FTP users served! > ^^^^^^^ > > > > > "Leif" <> wrote in message > news:s0XNa.19336$... > > > > "TomG" <tgeery-NOSPAM-@cox.net> skrev i meddelandet > > news:VSVNa.8596$... > > > you may want to try 16K as that is the size that most of the folks I > > worked > > > with here in the group, including myself, reported the best results > with. > > > > > > > Ok!
