I get weird echoing when I start up with the onboard sound. If I use my
trusty SB Live Value, it doesn't make that doubling or triple echoing sound.
Is the onboard sound taking up CPU power?
Also, I have a wireless D-link setup and I can see my network sign in
the lower right corner coming up telling me that the onboard network is
going from 10 to 100, interupting flow of data expecially in games
(disconnect.)
I have:

2600+ XP
350 Watt PS
512 DDR 2700
Soyo Dragon 400+ Light
xelo 128 ddr MMX440 card
OS- XP Pro SP 1
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Joe

Joe,

Try reapplying the VIA Hyperion 4-in-1 Drivers.

To answer your question, yes. According to recent
benchmarks at Tomshardware, the onboard C-Media audio can
sap up to 15%. Hardcore gamers would be better off with a
dedicated sound card.

If you have a wireless NIC in slot 4, move it to #2.
Avoid PCI slot 4, it shares an IRQ with the onboard sound.

Good luck,

MJ

Especially for those with strong budget limitations.

Bloody little, I'm sure.
