Recently I purchased a new hard drive for my computer. I went home to
install it, and realized that I needed to install the (included) PCI ATA controller card in order for it to function. So, I plugged in the PCI card and then my computer, which had the exact same parts as before I opened it, save the new PCI card. It gave a long "beep", a pause, another long "beep," a pause, and so on until I pull the plug. Soyo's site says that this beep pattern is because the ram is not found or compatible. The ram is obviously compatible, as I have used it for 4 months prior. I reseated the ram several times and the computer still will not turn on. I have tried starting it with and without the new PCI card and every time I get the beeps. My specs: AMD Athlon XP 2100 + 512 2100 Mushkin Ram Geforce 4 ti4200 Soyo KT333 Dragon Lite mobo Sound Blaster PCI sound card 30 MB Western Digital Hard Drive (old HD) thanks for your help! <3 lucas |

I did unplug the computer, of course, and I was working on a hardwood floor and touched "nonessential" parts before touching essential ones to avoid static. |

sounds to me like maybe you jarred something, maybe the motherboard is
contacting the case somehow. also check out the capacitors, make sure they all look good, just for grins. sounds like a case of rule out the obvious until you get to the obscure ~ one last suggestion, check all power connections to _hard drives_ esp, since if one of them was jarred loose then the PC would not boot due to a bad power good signal between the device and power supply, well worth checking ~ "Lucas Mathis" <> wrote in message news: m... > "John" <> wrote in message news:<CuLQa.345$ >... > > reset your CMOS. of course you _did_ unplug the PC before working on it > > right ? no static either ? > > > > "Lucas Mathis" <> wrote in message > > news: om... > > > Recently I purchased a new hard drive for my computer. Did the AGP pop? Pull all cables and cards and put ram, video and HD and go
step, by, step until you isolate the problem. ALso, it helps to have spare parts around. Try holding the insert key down when you power up, then go into your bios
and check all settings. Phasor "Julie Barnett" <> wrote in message news:ZwTRa.60974$... > Did the AGP pop?
