Is there a way to report people who post ads that are inappropriate to
the newsgroup?
It's bad enough that this junk slips through e-mail, but this is a
family-oriented newsgroup with a specific focus. I've noticed today that
someone was extremely busy last night posting junk on most of the
newsgroups like Dell's. The user ID changes, but the address is
fhfd34.com.

There is no central authority. If you look at the message source you might be
able to determine something. For example, in your case there is a line that
says

X-Complaints-To:

I don't know, but I'm guessing this could, in general, be forged. If there is
a URL you are supposed to respond to, you might be able to use that. Typically
the address to send complaints to is abuse@..........................

You could also complain to your ISP about their filtering software.

If the post offended you why did you read it? What's inappropriate to
you might be amusing to others. We have enough civil liberties being stepped
on right now, we don't need anyone burning more books. When you are reading
these newsgroups you must keep an open mind. Were not babysitters!

Just my take on it, my two cents if you will.

Part of free speech is the ability to voice concerns about speech that
may begin to infringe on other peoples rights.
To simply ignore something that may be offensive sounds OK, however it
is really wimping out on those so willing to infringe on others
rights.

Imagined ability is deciding quickly and getting somebody else to do the
work.

Had we not faults of our own, we should take less pleasure in complaining of
others.

He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.

Just my take on it, my two cents if you will.

Craig,
Good point. The original post has merit though, I come to this NG to find
answers and gain knowledge, NOT to enlarge certain areas of my body
(whether necessary or not). I too, would wonder how to keep the junk out. I
do have to click on it to add it to the killfile.
Regards
MG

Before you take this guys advise keep in mind these "facts": (1) You are
solely responsible for your actions when reporting spam. (2) You take full
responsibility and assume all liability for reporting some one as a spammer,
because you can lose your ISP if they report you for unjustifiable
harassment. What this guy isn't telling you is the door swings both ways.

Advice is like castor oil, easy enough to give but dreadful uneasy to take.

People give away nothing so liberally as their advice.

A little bit of fear tactics, a lot of bologna with the tiniest amount
of truth.
