Is use of the ® really necessary in a newsgroup post?

And as an international company, posting to an international audience, how
about having an international competition? Or at least the same completion
hosted from our local MS websites? After all 'collaborate' is one of the
themes.

She normally isn't putting that in every post. If you'll note the
phrasing, she simply did a copy / paste from the official page, thus
the symbols - since they were put there likely by MS themselves.

Probably because of government regulations in the various countries. Canada
is difficult, for instance, because they have a couple different laws on the
books where (I think) you need to answer a quiz to actually "earn" the
prize.

Limiting the entry field also places a "known" quantity on the prizes, that
is a certain language version, etc., and eliminates lots of correspondence
regarding the version.
