How to test memory for Dell systems?

Hello and thanks for any help you can provide...

I have four Dell GX-150 systems all loaded with 512meg of memory
on two 256meg strips... generic memory I puchased off Ebay.

The memory all tests good using the Microsoft Memory Test program
but I'm having this funky < Missing "system32ntoskrnl.exe" >
issue over and over on several of the machines and I cannot find
any reason for it.

I have three other GX-150 machines and never this issue... not once.

The only thing I can think of is it does not like the memory for some
reason. It should take up to 512meg according to the specs, correct?

Is there some reason all PC133 (non ECC) memory will not work in this
Dell and is there any test I can use for checking memory compatibility?

Are you sure the installed OS is good?

Memtest 86 and Memtest 86+ are both good checks, as is putting the
memory in another known working computer. You could also try a live
Linux on CD.

IIRC that can happen if the registry becomes corrupt... if the "new"
memory is removed do they boot ok ?

XP SP2 actually has a backup directory, and if you're really stuck and
it is a registry error, you can replace the existing registry with the
backups.

Ineffectively and not very comprehensively. I'd call the Dell diags memory test
a quick sanity test... Ben Myers

Use the 'custom test' feature and run the extended MATS tests. Extremely
thorough and imo reliable.

Depending on the system speed and the total amount of RAM, one pass can take
in the neighborhood of an hour or two.
