Thinking of getting a AMD X2 ? -- see this Newegg combo deal, courtesy of Anandtech

Just noticed this while lazily perusing the Anandtech website. I
normally avoid clicking on any ads, but this one sure attracted by
attention really quickly.

Full Retail-package version of the brand-new Nero 7 with the purchase
of an AMD X2 processor (Retail package), BUT it does exclude the AMD
X2 3800+......

The X2 pricings on Newegg are currently the lowest from all the
reputable US on-line sources. (Others have the same price, but might

Computer Store, No free software included..(Price does not include the 15%

It is rather old, and Anand does not seem to have followed up
on it so far............

I'm sure that some games will not like the second core, just like some
don't like HT ( Arx Fatalis, with latest patch comes immediately to
mind ) No real problem, use Set Affinity.

popularity, and demand.

sentence in my quote above. However, this deal is (was ?) genuine --
the X2 prices on Newegg have not changed for the past few weeks,
and are the same as ZipZoomFly and Monarch. ZipZoomFly offers
free 2-day (US mainland) shipping.

Regarding changing prices.. keep in mind that Amazon and Newegg will offer
different prices based on your cookies and revisting. If you are a "new"
customer the prices will sometimes be cheaper then if you are a "returning
customer with logon. Yeah.. I know.. sneaky huh?

Thanks for the warning.

I buy quite a bit of stuff from Newegg & Amazon, but always
comparison-check prices and will give Newegg the business if the
prices are equal within 1-2%. ( They have been an exceptionally
reliable supplier and on the only item that I have ever had to RMA,
and which was damaged at the manufacturer, they picked
up the return-shipment tab and sent me a replacement before
receiving the RMA item. ) Otherwise, I buy elsewhere if necessary...
so if Newegg has been doing that, then they have auto-screwed
themselves. And most of my Amazon purchases have been from
Amazon "3rd-parties"

Isn't the X2 4400 slower than even a Athlon 64 3200 for single threaded
games (most at this point)? My understanding is that the cores themselves
even up to x2 4800 are slow in themselves.
