I am considering buying a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card to replace my
onboard C-Media 8738. Does anyone have any comments about the Santa
Cruz's sound vs. the onboard C-Media 8738 sound? I am most interested
in 2-channel stereo line-level output of CDs and WAVs and occaisionally
I will record an analog source to a WAV for eventual burning onto an
audio CD. What I mainly don't like about the onboard sound is it's
relatively low output from the line out jack, which cause me to have to
turn my external amplifier up significantly higher than any other
components attached to it to get the same volume as from those
components.

TIA!
Bob

I've owned a Santa Cruz and I have a second PC here that is using
C-Media. Santa Cruz is light years ahead of C-Media and for music
listening etc. will make you quite happy.

Thanks. I went ahead and bought one and installed it today. So far it
sounds great!

Yea, it's a nice sounding card and I only dumped it for an Audigy2
because the Audigy2 has better 3D game support. Another great card
that is not too expensive and if you are into mostly music is the
M-Audio Revolution.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz will exceed most onboard audio specs and is one
of the best cards available considering price and features.

I just had to take my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz out of my computer
and use it to replace a defective SB Live in a customer's computer
I had to switch back to the built in 8738 on my motherboard
The MP3 playback quality on my Santa Cruz was better.
The local Fry' Electronics sell the TB Santa Cruz for $40.
Even cheaper for a used one at www.ebay.com
