I've just bought a Pentium 4 from a shop and it came in a little
plastic bag with no cooler and 1 year warranty. My previous Celeron
came in a box with cooler and 3 year warranty. Have I been ripped
off? Does my processor still carry a 3 year intel warranty?

Anyway, I've installed the new Pentium 4 with an Akasa cooler and it
works fine.

You probably purchased an 'OEM' (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product.
These are the CPUs and other items purchased in bulk by large manufacturers.

Typically they are a bit less expensive as they are not (as you found)
provided with 'accessories' such as fans, heatsinks, or long warranties.

The warranty on your CPU is probably one year. You might be able to check
it via the CPU's serial number through the Intel website.

It's an OEM processor, not Retail, and only comes with a one year warranty.
That's why it was cheaper.
