Undo a battery gauge reset - possible?

I have a Thinkpad z60t with an extra capacity (not sure if this is the
right term) battery that is supposed to give me 5+ hours of computing
time. In 6 months it dropped down to about 1.5 hours. I was prompted to
do a battery gauge reset which I did and now my battery won't charge
over 3% and powers down immediately after I disconnect the power cord.
Is there any way I can undo a battery gauge reset so I can at least get
back to 1.5 hours on my battery? Looks like the battery gauge reset
feature messed up my battery's capacity.

Some information on the battery information screen
FRU Part Number - IBM-92P1125
Manufacturer Name - Sanyo
First used 2005-12
Design capacity - 65.52wh
Remaining capacity - 0.15wh
Full charge capacity 5.16wh
Current - 0.00A
Last gauge reset 2006-12-16

Thanks

Pali

I hope you got this system as a Christmas present last year. The battery
information you supplied indicates that the battery has failed (it will
accept 5 of 65 watts design capacity) and needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately, you didn't provide information about the cycle count
which indicates how much it has been used. If you "reset" the battery
guage by deep discharging then charging the battery a few times,
marginal cells in the battery have failed.

Your description of what happens when you try to use it on battery is
also exactly what happens when the battery has almost no capacity.

If Lenovo offered the system with a one year warantee on the battery,
you need to contact them IMMEDIATELY about getting a replacement. The
"First used" date indicates sometime in December, hopefully after
today's date. You'll probably need a sales slip to verify the purchase date.

Good luck!

Phil,

Thanks for the reply. The cycle count reads '542'. Fortunately, the
battery is still under warranty and will be replaced by the store I
bought it from. I thought that the battery gauge reset somehow degraded
the condition of the battery as the performance dropped dramatically
after each reset.

Happy holidays!
