Hello,
Forgive the large paragraph, I cannot use my "Enter" key. I am trying to
erase all traces of the keyboard on my computer so I can reinstall the OEM
drivers from the application recovery CD. Currently my keyboard is about 50
percent functional (after installing the HP multimedia keyboard patch). I
would like to know what, if any registry keys I need to alter after
uninstalling the One-Touch keyboard software. Should I remove the keyboard
entirely from the device manager in ControlPanel>System ? Should I unplug
the keyboard before or after rebooting, or at all for that matter? The last
time I tried this, Windows automatically reinstalled default keyboard
drivers on reboot, even though it was unplugged at the time. They were not
functioning properly, so I installed the HP recovery keyboard drivers, which
didn't function properly either. I then installed the updated patch, and
that didn't function either. I am thinking it must be a registry thing, keep
in mind however that I just reinstalled Windows only 5 days ago, and it was
working correctly until I tried the update 3 days ago. Since then, no matter
what version I run, it is fatally ill. thanks!!!!! I REALLY NEED HELP! -
Earl

No joke, but try another keyboard without all the multimedia buttons. As far as
I am concerned, they are pure trouble... Ben Myers

Actually, the keyboard and One touch software worked perfectly from March of
'99 til late last year, that's 4 and a half years of good service from it. I
never had a problem with it until probably October of '03.

The thing is, I use the MultiMedia buttons more often than I type,
(shorcuts, volume knob, DVD controls, etc) there must be a way to restore
this thing to working order...

Pressing the Up Arrow key puts the system into Standby mode, hitting Enter
opens outlook express, the caps lock button acts as an enter key. The number
pad produces 3-4 characters for each keystroke, none of them the number that
is being pressed. I'm going insane here... Thankfully my new computer is
working, so I can write this pain-free.

What you are describing could be the symptoms of a failed keyboard. The
computer industry has progressed a long way since the days of the indestructable
classic 101-key IBM clicky keyboard which I am still using and will be buried
with in my grave (Mine was manufactured in May of 1989). The industry has
progressed backward. Keyboards sell for maybe $19 at Best Buy, Circuit City,
etc. A keyboard selling for that amount of money will wear out sooner or later,
probably sooner. The keyboard gave 4 1/2 years of good service. It owes you
nothing... Ben Myers
