Hi,

does anyone know where I can obtain an updated bios for a HP Pavilion 7934
Uk model?

The original one is next to useless.

Thanks!

If a BIOS update is not available on the HP web site, it's not available.
Officially. The motherboard in the 7934 was made for HP by FIC, so there is a
possibility that the generic FIC BIOS update for a very similar model of board
will work. However, this approach is EXTREMELY risky, and I cannot recommend it
unless you are prepared to replace the board should it become useless through a
bad flash update operation.

Original BIOS is useless, because? Can't overclock? Can't tweak memory
settings? Won't recognize a larger hard drive? What you get with a name-brand
computer is a BIOS that is as foolproof as possible, to minimize the chance of
people screwing up their systems by choosing settings that do not work. HP,
IBM/Lenovo, Gateway, Dell, Intel (motherboard manufacturer) all follow this
approach... Ben Myers

I've tried the generic one from FIC, the mb is a VC31 but it doesn't work,
the updater just sits there

Its a solid enough machine but it needs to be pushed a bit more, its ripe
for tweaking

You won't ever get any help tweaking from HP. The best thing which can be done
to tweak a computer these days is a memory upgrade, especially if you have
suffered along with the minimalist 128MB as delivered with the system. Kick the
system up to 512MB or more, clean up the junk files (especially temp files),
defrag, and you'll see more of an improvement than you would ever hope for from
overclocking and other tweaks to push the hardware limits... Ben Myers

I'm actually running the x86 version of Mac osx on it with 256 mb of ram,
works faster than xp ever did

I needed to tweak various settings to change resolution but I can live
without that if need be

Well, the motherboard BIOS has nothing to do with graphics resolution. The Mac
OS X drivers for Nvidia GeForce2 MX-200 allow you to change the resolution.
color depth, font size, and refresh rate, or maybe they do not. The motherboard
BIOS has nothing to do with the properties of graphics displayed, even for
motherboards with built-in chipsets. It's all in the drivers provided by
whatever operating system is used... Ben Myers

Apparently I need to change the AGP Aperture size, to get the screen
resolution over 1024*768.

Hp should licence osx when its released, they'd make a killing

You're aware that what you are doing is highly illegal?

> I needed to tweak various settings to change resolution but I can live

BIOS has nothing to do with resolution...

You should also be aware that besides that what you're doing is illegal
the x86 MacOS X only has drivers for the Apple x86 development system.
So it may work, but probably to a full extend...
